Freedom is very important,I am sure all of you will agree. We all need freedom, don't we?But what does freedom really mean?It might mean different things to different people. What does freedom mean to me as an individual and also as a member of the society I am living in?I want the liberty to do anything I want, without anyone trying to stop me but is that possible? If I do whatever I feel like doing,it may cause problems for others, some may get hurt or feel hurt and this is something which I would never want,at least not willfully. That means, along with freedom,I have some responsibilities also, after all I don't live on an island.I have a responsibility towards society but that responsibility is limited,I cannot be a slave to society or for that matter,to any individual or organization,Society has its own rules and I have mine.As long as I am not creating trouble,as long as I am not breaking any law, what right does anyone have to interfere with my freedom?
Keeping all this in mind, what I see around me today is an all out attempt to suppress freedom,my right to expression is suppressed,my right to freedom of speech is suppressed,my political freedom is suppressed and all this makes me feel oppressed. The more oppressed I feel the more rebellious I grow.Look around you and you will see how people are being oppressed and suppressed, some in the name of religion, some in the name of caste and others in the name of nationalism. How long do you think people can tolerate this kind of suppression, how long will they be able to sit quietly and not be stirred to action? We must remember that the winds of oppression not only try to extinguish the flame of freedom but they also fan the fire of resistance and revolt.Let us keep this in mind and resolve to fight all kinds of oppression, being meek and submissive will only keep us slaves for life which,I am sure, none of us would like to be!
